Veneers - Transform an ordinary-looking smile to a perfect whiter smile
Is your love for a good cup of coffee having a horrible effect on the colour of your teeth? Or are you anything but passionate about your passion gap? A smile is something special and unique to every person. That’s exactly why it should be something you’re proud to show off to the world.
So, what if you don’t like the shape, size or discolouration of your teeth – what can you do about it? The answer: veneers.
Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that are custom made to enhance your teeth. They are bonded to your own teeth with a very specialised resin and the aim is to create a natural, but perfect look.
Veneers are the ideal solution for when you are not happy with the gaps between your teeth, the size of your teeth, the state or shape of your teeth, or even the colour of your teeth.
How are veneers manufactured? First, your dentist will prepare your teeth in order to create space for the veneers. This means very small amounts of enamel is removed from your teeth. This will ensure that the veneers fit perfectly into your mouth.
A sequence of digital photos will then be taken and a 3D model of your prepared teeth will appear on the computer for the designing of the veneers that follow. The designed veneer will then be sent to the milling unit where it is milled out of a selected porcelain block immediately (CAD/CAM technology). Within minutes the milled veneer is ready to be glazed, fitted and bonded permanently. Very soon you will smile from ear to ear… literally.
Your veneers are done, now what? So, you have a brand-new smile that makes you feel confident. What are the steps to ensure the longevity of your new improved smile? Caring for your veneers is much the same as caring for your teeth:
Make sure you brush twice a day with the correct toothbrush and toothpaste.
Flossing is always a good idea – especially when you have veneers. Tooth decay can be avoided by flossing regularly and ensuring food stuck between your teeth is removed.
·Biting hard sweets, biltong etc. or even biting down on a pencil while you’re deep in thought could cause damage to your veneers. Become a softy and enjoy your veneers for longer.
Your veneers are like teeth, not tools. Do not get confused between a bottle opener and your veneers. While it might be quicker and easier to open a bottle with your veneers, you could crack them and cause major damage. Rather get up, get the bottle opener and smile as you enjoy your drink with your veneers still looking picture perfect.
And finally, make sure you visit your dentist regularly. You’ve got the picture-perfect look, make sure you keep it that way by visiting your dentist for a good clean and regular check-up.
Veneers not only give you the confidence to smile when you meet new people, they make you feel better about yourself and help you to not feel ashamed whenever you’re opening your mouth. Being able to laugh out loud when you want to, is a great feeling that no one can take away from you. And now, even if things don’t turn out the way you have planned, you will still be able to grin and bear it in style.
